Father and daughter jailed for torturing man in Glasgow flat
Getty ImagesA father and daughter who tortured a man and held him hostage have been jailed for a total of 14 years.
John McGinley, 58, and Stacey McGinley, 39, admitted pushing Duncan Craig from a first floor window in Glasgow's east end before he was stripped, battered, choked and stabbed.
The High Court in Glasgow heard that the pair had turned on Craig as he allegedly owed a £600 debt to Stacey - his on-off partner.
Lord Mulholland told them they should be "truly ashamed" and jailed John for seven-and-a-half years and Stacey for six-and-a-half years.
The judge told them: "You both could have today been facing a murder charge.
"How someone can do this to another human being is beyond me."
The court heard that Craig had been at the father and daughter's flat along with another woman on 15 February 2025.
Stacey was said to be "unhappy" with her partner as he supposedly owed her money. At about 03:00 she started repeatedly punching him.
Craig fled and climbed onto the window sill of the first floor flat, where he was pushed by John and fell into a neighbour's garden.
Prosecutor Alasdair Shaw said Craig was "groaning in pain" and he appeared to be bleeding from the head.
The court heard he was subjected to "numerous assaults" for several hours.
The prosecutor said the other woman could hear Craig screaming and at times choking as he cried for help.
He added that Stacey also repeatedly bit Craig on the body and stamped on his head before she ordered him to call his mother to transfer the cash to settle the debt.
During the assault, John cut Craig on his head and body with knives.
He was described as "covered in blood, eyes swollen, his body extensively bruised" and being forced to crawl along the floor.
Stacey went on to spray hairspray into his head wounds and John put a bag on his head to stop his blood dripping.
'Numerous assaults'
The other woman at the flat eventually text a friend in secret and asked her to phone an ambulance and the police.
Firearms officers arrived at the property at about 17:26, where they found Craig wrapped in a duvet.
He told the police he had a broken leg and could not move.
Craig was taken to hospital with injuries including a hip fracture, dislocated shoulder, missing teeth and bite and strangulation marks.
He remained in hospital until 3 March and needed further rehabilitation for his leg injury.
John McGinley pled guilty to attempted murder with his daughter admitting to assaulting the victim to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment as well as to the danger of his life.
Both also abducted the man and tried to extort cash from him.
Paul Nelson KC, defending the father, told the sentencing hearing: "During the evening, he was in another room, heard noise then he came back to see what it was.
"In the knowledge of the relationship between his daughter and the victim he then acted in the way libelled."
The daughter's KC John Scullion said: " She has little recollection of the offence. She accepts full responsibility for her actions and has expressed remorse."
Both have been banned from contacting or approaching the victim for life.
