Four jailed after weapons found in car

Jail for four men found with weapons in their car

Four men have been jailed after swords and a loaded handgun were found in their car.

Police bodycam footage from the arrest in September showed their BMW being stopped in Wolverhampton and armed officers forcing them out of the vehicle.

West Midlands Police said the group - three from London and one from the West Midlands - were arrested because the car was believed to be linked to an attack in Birmingham three days previously.

The four received sentences of up to seven years at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

The firearms officers were called to stop the car near Spring Vale Island as it travelled into Wolverhampton from London.

When the men were arrested, police officers found a collection of weapons including swords in the back of the car and a handgun with 11 rounds of ammunition in the passenger footwell.

The men were sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday.

  • Gurwinder Singh, 25, from Ealing in London, admitted possession of a firearm, ammunition and bladed weapons, and was jailed for five years and 11 months.
  • Harpandeep Singh, 23, from Hackney in London, was jailed for seven years after being found guilty of the firearm and ammunition charges, and admitting possession of the bladed weapons.
  • Harshehajdeep Singh, 21, from Ealing in London, was jailed six years and eight months after being found guilty of possession of the firearm, ammunition and bladed weapons.
  • Zorawar Singh, aged 31, from West Bromwich in the West Midlands, was jailed for six years and two months after admitting admitted possession of a firearm, ammunition and bladed weapons.

DC Kyle Bowering, said: "This investigation has led to the recovery of a loaded gun, as well as swords, which would no doubt have gone on to be used in crime to harm and threaten others."
