A Grade II listed bridge that was damaged when a vehicle struck it is to be repaired.

The collision damaged the cast-iron parapet of Lockwood Street Bridge, west Hull, in November 2025.

Constructed in 1877, the bridge spans the Beverley and Barmston Drain and connects Lockwood Street to Barmston Street.

Hull City Council said it was in the process of appointing a contractor to carry out repair work using traditional techniques to preserve the bridge's historic character.

The authority said because the bridge is listed, the repair works would need to be completed in accordance with Listed Building Consent.

The appointed contractor would be responsible for repairing damage to the masonry on the north and south elevations and replacing the damaged cast-iron parapet on the south, the council said.

The parapet is currently being supported by temporary scaffolding for safety.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for infrastructure and transport, said the bridge's Victorian features would be preserved.

"We're looking forward to working with the appointed contractor to carefully repair the bridge, protect its heritage and preserve this key transport link, so it can continue to serve residents for years to come," he said.

The city council approved a five-year plan to invest in Hull's key infrastructure in June 2025.
