Peak District 'race track' warning as cars seized
Derbyshire PoliceTwo cars have been seized after police in Derbyshire tracked more than 30 vehicles following reports of dangerous driving.
Officers said they received multiple calls about "high performance" cars being driven at excessive speed in the High Peak area on Sunday.
Several of the vehicles were traced to the Castleton area, Derbyshire Police said, while about 30 vehicles were later found on Old Mam Tor Road.
No arrests were made but two cars were seized, prompting officers to warn drivers that the roads of the High Peak "are not a race track".
Derbyshire PolicePolice said finding the vehicles on Old Mam Tor Road was just the start of their work.
"Further reports indicated that some of these vehicles were being driven at excessive speeds and in a manner that caused alarm and distress to other road users," a spokesperson said.
"Officers engaged with those present and identified drivers suspected of being involved in the anti-social driving reported earlier, and two vehicles were seized.
The Hope Valley Safer Neighbourhood Team thanked residents for flagging up the problem and said they would not hesitate to take similar action in the future.
"To anyone who believes the roads of the High Peak are a racetrack, let this serve as a warning - they are not," the team said in a social media post.
"Positive action will be taken against those who put others at risk."
