Men in Sheds branch to get extra CCTV
Men in Sheds HullA community group set up to help people tackle loneliness and learn new skills has been awarded council funding to improve security.
Men in Sheds Hull, which meets at The Pavilion in Oak Road Playing Fields, has been awarded up to £6,579 towards the cost of installing additional CCTV to an area in the public car park.
A report that went before Hull City Council's crime prevention grants sub-committee stated the area had almost daily instances of anti-social behaviour, including suspected drug dealing and fly-tipping.
The charity said the money would allow it to redevelop the area and make it a more vibrant and useful space that benefits the wider community.
A spokesperson for the charity said: "The area is a dark corner of the car park that cannot be seen from the main road. We are currently working with Hull City Council to hopefully redevelop this area further in the coming months.
"The report also recognised that Men in Sheds makes a significant contribution through both the time invested by its volunteers and the wide range of benefits it provided to the local community.
There are currently more than 1,000 Men in Sheds projects across the country, where members get together, talk and learn new skills.
