Long tailbacks on M42 after fatal collision
Traffic CamerasLong tailbacks and heavy congestion have been reported around the M42 in Worcestershire after the westbound carriageway was closed overnight.
West Mercia Police was called to the motorway near Redditch at 22:15 BST on Thursday after a pedestrian suffered fatal injuries in a collision with a silver Vauxhall Insignia.
The westbound carriageway remains closed between junctions three and two and is expected to stay shut for several hours, the force added.
National Highways said there were delays of about 30 minutes, with queues stretching for three miles. Inquiries to confirm the pedestrian's identity are under way.
Any motorists who were in the area at the time and anyone who witnessed the collision have been asked to contact the police.
Drivers have also been warned the eastbound carriageway could be subject to temporary closures throughout the day.
