Plans for egg-production plant win approval

Plans for an egg production unit that could house up to 32,000 hens have been approved.

Cattle Holderness's application for a site near Burton Pidsea in Holderness was backed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Burton Pidsea Parish Council had raised traffic concerns, but council officers concluded the traffic generated by the business would not represent a significant increase that would be harmful to local residents.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, birds would be kept at the free-range facility for 70 weeks. At the end of each cycle, they would be replaced with a new flock.
