Police patrols have been stepped up after a serious sexual assault on a woman in Nottinghamshire.

The attack took place in a wooded area in Newstead and Annesley Country Park shortly after 11:00 BST on Tuesday, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The force said there was currently heightened police activity in the area while investigations continued.

The suspect has been described as a white man in his 30s.

Det Insp Ed Cook said: "While incidents of this nature are extremely rare, they are obviously very concerning for the public.

"Public safety remains our top priority and extra patrols will continue to be carried out in the area.

"I'd also encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or concerning behaviour to us immediately."

Anyone who has any information is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101.
