Sett piece: Trapped badger freed from football net
RSPCARescuers came to the defence of a badger who became trapped in football netting at a school in Derbyshire.
The RSPCA was called by members of the public to Swanwick on Friday over a badger wrapped tightly in a net on the grounds of a school.
Animal rescue officer Vanessa Pardin arrived to cut the animal free and take him to RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre in Nantwich, Cheshire, where vets diagnosed a swollen front right leg and a number of rope burns.
The badger has since been treated and released back in to the wild.
Pardin said: "Netting can be lethal for wild animals like badgers who can easily become trapped and severely injured while struggling to break free.
"Luckily, we were able to reach this badger in time, but this serves as a reminder to everyone to please put away sports netting when it's not in use."
