Rider dies after serious accident playing polo
Paul GroveA man has died following a serious accident during a polo match in West Sussex.
Cowdray Park Polo Club in Easebourne said it was "devastated" after Harry Revell died following the incident on 11 September.
The club described him as a "much-loved and respected member of the polo community" and said its thoughts were "first and foremost with his wife, family, friends and teammates at this incredibly difficult time".
Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex said it arrived at Cowdray Park at about 17:45 BST on Friday, and helped to treat a patient "involved in an accidental injury".
Its crew "transported the patient to a major trauma centre by air", a spokesperson said.
A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) said there were two other casualties, one who was taken to a local hospital and another who was discharged from its care at the scene.
A game scheduled for Sunday has been postponed, while Cowdray Park Polo Club said the remainder of the season would "resume in due course".
The club said: "We are enormously grateful to the paramedics, the air ambulance and everyone involved in Harry's care.
"Out of respect for Harry's family, we ask that their privacy is respected."
Auckland Polo Club in New Zealand said Revell had been a "much-loved member" for many years when he would travel to play during the country's polo season.
"An absolute perfect gentlemen, he was an asset to every polo team, sideline, dinner table or polo party," the club said.
