Plans have been submitted to replace a footbridge over a railway line.

The concrete structure on Priory Drive in Hull is approaching the end of its service life and is beyond practical repair, the city council said.

The replacement would feature ramps, enabling it to be used by cyclists.

Officials said the crossing would be closed while the current bridge is removed and the new one constructed, with a shuttle bus service to allow students who use the bridge it to get to school, Hull City Council said.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure said: "Priory Drive Footbridge forms an important part of the local pedestrian and cycle network, enabling residents to make everyday journeys without relying on a car.

"Replacing the footbridge is essential to maintaining the connection between east and west of the railway line.

"It will also support access to schools, local services, and residential properties, while delivering a more accessible route for everyone."

The council said the bridge will remain open until work starts on the replacement and it is being monitored by engineers and Network Rail.

The public can comment on the plans, with further details on the council's website.
