Single decker bus stolen and driven into cars
Andy Smith/Telford LiveA single decker bus was stolen in Shropshire after the driver was attacked, later crashing into a row of parked cars.
Videos posted on social media show the driver being assaulted by a man, before he took over the wheel and drove it down the wrong side of the road, crashing it into multiple cars.
Onlookers can be heard screaming for him to stop and urging people to get out of the way.
Armed officers were deployed to the scene in Court Street, Telford, at around 18.35 BST on Friday. A 33-year-old man was arrested and remains in police custody.
The bus driver was treated by paramedics for minor injuries and no-one else was believed to have been hurt, police said.
West Mercia Police said the man drove the bus along Park Way towards the High Street.
Officers eventually stopped the vehicle and arrested the man on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving.
Andy Smith/Telford LiveEdward Hancox, Superintendent for local policing in Telford, said the force understands how "concerning" the incident will have been for people in Madeley and the wider Telford community.
He said: "I want to reassure people that our enquiries are very much ongoing. Officers were on the scene, and had made the arrest, within 10 minutes of the first call being received."
Armed officers were deployed from Malinsgate Police Station, said Hancox, as he thanked members of the public for helping the driver before their arrival.
"The care and concern shown by the community has been greatly appreciated. We're also very grateful to everyone who has already come forward with information or sent us footage.
"We are reviewing the material we have received as part of our enquiries, but we would still encourage anyone with footage or information who hasn't yet spoken to us to please get in touch."
A spokesperson for Arriva said they are aware of the incident and are currently supporting the driver affected while assisting police with their enquiries.
