A new service for adults with additional needs is boosting their confidence, users have said.

Inclusive performing arts group, Born to Perform, who reached the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent in April 2022, runs the sessions at Buckton Fields Community Centre in Northampton, which offers support through performing arts, crafts, gardening and practical skills.

The group came to wider attention after appearing on ITV's show, where judge David Walliams used his golden buzzer for its performance.

Sarah Wakelin, whose son Kayln attends the group, said: "He's a lot more confident, he's made more friends, is more outgoing, and has met loads more new people."

Ellie Thomas attended the new centre for the first time at the open day on Wednesday.

"My favourite thing so far is performing arts, and this is only my first day looking around, so it's pretty cool," she said.

"I want to become more confident in the life skills department."

Freya York, head of services at Born to Perform, said the new provision was "giving a sense of expansion".

"We're reaching a new market for [clients] with disabilities that can't access the community like everyone else," she added.

The new service also offers singing, Zumba, and basic kitchen skills.

Born to Perform also operates from the Deco Theatre and runs a Saturday school for performers aged two and above.

Theo Jackson, 30, is a non-verbal client who initially attended two days a week and now attends for four.

His father, David Jackson, said the service had changed how his son interacted with others.

"He's very much a different person here than he is at home," he said.

"He just loves being on stage."
