Plans to install a pedestrian crossing at a "dangerous" junction where families and children are "struggling every day" have been proposed.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council wants to install the traffic-controlled signal crossing at the junction of Richmond Park Road and Springbourne Roundabout in Bournemouth.

The authority said the crossing would give locals safer access to Queen's Park, as well as support anyone walking or cycling to a nearby school.

Local councillor Alasdair Keddie said that he had seen "so many near misses" at the junction that it was "a wonder no one has been killed or seriously injured".

Keddie added: "This is a dangerous crossing point and I see families and children struggling here every day.

"This crossing will provide a safe route to local schools and work for the families who live nearby."

Sharon Carr-Brown said the junction was "incredibly busy and dangerous"

Fellow local councillor Sharon Carr-Brown said that she was pleased the scheme had been put forward.

"It's something I've campaigned for since being elected and the crossing will be a vital part of the walking cycling route that connects the railway station right through to King's and Queen's Parks and beyond," she said.

"But mostly it means that people won't have to take their lives in their hands when crossing this incredibly busy and dangerous road anymore."

Keddie added that some locals had raised concerns with the proposed crossing, particularly highlighting its proximity to the roundabout as an issue.

Residents can put forward their views on the plans to BCP Council until 22 May.
