Norfolk Police later admitted this post had been published in error

Norfolk Police said it was dealing with a "major incident" in a post on social media that it later deleted, saying it had been published "in error".

In a post on X on Sunday morning, the force said it could not handle non-emergency calls due to the incident but did not give any further information.

A website link offering "more information about this incident" also failed to provide any detail.

The post left residents speculating online as to what had happened.

They were asked by Norfolk Police to report non-urgent matters via its website before the post was taken down several hours later.

The BBC contacted the force multiple times for more information and did not hear back.

However, the force later said on X that it was "aware" of the post it had written, which was "published in error" and no major incident had been declared.

"To clarify, there is no major incident ongoing or has been declared in Norfolk," the force said.
