Teenage girl found in road with critical injuries

A teenage girl is in a critical condition in hospital after she was found lying on a road with serious head and chest injuries, police said.

The 16-year-old was found near a bus stop on Rook's Nest Road in Wakefield at about 20:30 BST on Tuesday and taken to hospital, West Yorkshire Police said.

The road remains closed for investigations and motorists are advised to find alternative routes.

A police spokesperson said: "Inquiries are ongoing today as to how she came to suffer these injuries, which include serious head and chest injuries, and anyone with information or footage which may assist this investigation should contact us."
