Arrest warrant for crash driver who killed woman
BBCA judge has issued a warrant for the arrest of a man who was due to be sentenced for causing the death of a young woman in a car crash.
Samir Amjid, 23, from Keighley, did not attend his sentencing hearing at Bradford Crown Court earlier.
Khadeeja Mahmood, 20, from Bradford, suffered fatal injuries when an Audi RS3 being driven by Amjid crashed into a wall on Baldwin Lane near Clayton village on 12 April 2024.
Amjid, of View Road, pleaded guilty at a hearing earlier this year to the charge of causing death by dangerous driving, and also admitted causing death by driving while disqualified and causing death by driving while uninsured.
Amjid was also seriously hurt in the collision.
In court earlier, barrister Richard Canning, defending Amjid, said his client was not at court but could not say for certain if he had been told about the date for sentencing.
Canning apologised to members of Mahmood's family who were present in court.
Honorary Recorder of Bradford Judge Jonathan Rose said he intended to issue a warrant not backed for bail.
Judge Rose said to the family: "I'm terribly, terribly sorry we can't proceed today, but you will be notified of course by the police as soon as we are in a position for the case to proceed."
