A police cordon in a public park put in place after a "suspected hand grenade" was found by a member of the public has now been lifted.

Wiltshire Police officers were called to Monkton Park, in Chippenham, just after 16:00 BST by a member of the public who was magnet fishing in the nearby River Avon.

Police said an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in shortly afterwards.

The suspected hand grenade was removed from the scene and the cordon was lifted shortly before 18:30 BST.

Officers also said the nearby Olympiad Leisure Centre was unaffected and remained open on Saturday evening.
