Jail for man who assaulted girl as she slept
Cheshire PoliceA man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after sexually assaulting a girl while she was asleep and raping her.
Ryan Upton, 19, and the teenage victim had been at an address in Crewe on the evening of 26 December 2024 when he sexually assaulted her and raped her.
The girl fled from the address following the assault and was found by a passer-by who helped her call police. Upton was arrested and denied the offences when interviewed but forensic tests were able to prove it was him.
Upton, from Sandbach, Cheshire, had previously pleaded guilty to rape and assault and was sentenced at Chester Crown Court.
Det Con Sallis said the sentence reflected the severity of what Upton did, adding he had no choice but to admit due to the strength of the forensic evidence against him.
"We would like to commend the bravery of the victim in this case for reporting this offence and although she will never forget what happened, we hope the fact that Upton is behind bars will give her some closure," Sallis said.
As well as his custodial sentence, Upton must sign the Sex Offender Register indefinitely and is subject to a restraining order.
