Trains cancelled due to safety checks near line

Passengers are facing disruption due to trains being cancelled while police and railway workers carry out safety checks near a section of line.

Greater Anglia trains between Norwich and Ely, including those running to Stansted Airport via Cambridge, have been cancelled until about 16:30 BST.

Police and Network Rail are making the checks near the railway line between Thetford and Harling Road train station, near East Harling, the company has said.

"Trains are unable to run between Norwich and Ely until the area has been checked and passed as safe," the firm has said.

Passengers have been told that they can use their tickets to catch trains from Ely to Stowmarket, then onto Norwich via Greater Anglia's intercity services.

People with advance timed tickets can travel on earlier or later trains if their service has been cancelled, while those whose journeys have been delayed by more than 15 minutes can claim for compensation, Greater Anglia added.
