Body found in river search for missing man

A body has been found in the search for a man who got into difficulty in the water in the Norfolk Broads.

Emergency services had been searching the River Yare at Ferry Road, Surlingham, since police were first called at about 14:33 BST on Friday.

Police, fire, coastguard, air ambulance and search teams were at the scene and continued the search into the night and early on Saturday morning.

But Norfolk Police said the body of a man in his 40s was discovered by a dive team on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the man's next of kin had been informed and his death was being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

Specialist equipment including drones, thermal imaging cameras and sonar were used in the search.

During the search, the River Yare was closed between Brundall Church Fen and The Ferry House pub but the Broads Authority said the river had since been reopened.

A police cordon is still in place at the scene.

Police said a file was being prepared for the coroner.
