A 26-year-old man has been charged in connection with a stabbing at a shop in South Yorkshire.

Officers were called by the ambulance service to the Today's Express store on Pontefract Road in Lundwood, Barnsley, at 20:50 BST on Thursday, following reports a man had been attacked.

A 40-year-old man was taken to hospital and was said to be in a life-threatening condition, but police said he had since stabilised.

South Yorkshire Police said a man had been charged with robbery, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Barnsley Magistrates' Court on Monday, the force said.

It added that officers were continuing to carry out high-visibility patrols in the Lundwood area.
