RNLI patrols set to return to six Jersey beaches

Jersey's RNLI is returning to the coast from Saturday, with daily patrols for six beaches alongside launching its Float to Live campaign.

The charity said its lifeguards were undergoing induction training ahead of returning to daily patrols at El Tico, Le Braye, Watersplash, Plémont, Grève de Lecq and St Brelade's Bay.

The RNLI Jersey branch marked 15 years of patrols on Jersey's shores in April. The charity said its lifeguards and lifeboats helped 370 people in 2025, saving three lives, across the Channel Islands.

Lead lifeguard supervisor Jake Elms said, as patrols returned, it wanted people to "enjoy the coast with confidence but also with respect for the sea".

He said: "Conditions can change quickly, so it's vital to swim between the flags, listen to lifeguard advice and never underestimate the water."

Elms said islanders could use the Float to Live technique if they ever got in trouble, adding: "Tilt your head back, relax your body, and control your breathing until help arrives.

"A calm response can make all the difference."

The charity said if a person saw someone else struggling to call 999 and tell them to stay calm, float on their back and throw rescue equipment to help them until the emergency services arrived.
