Two released in A1 crash death investigation

Two men arrested in an investigation into a fatal crash on the A1 have been released.

A 52-year-old woman and a dog died after being hit by a car on the northbound lane of the A1 at South Witham at about 21:30 BST on Saturday.

Lincolnshire Police said the woman, a man and their dog had left their Vauxhall Corsa parked in a layby on the southbound lane, near the Fox Inn, and had walked over to the northbound lane.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving but has since been released under investigation. A 58-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has now been released without charge.

A force spokesperson said: "Our inquiries will continue in relation to the offence of causing death by careless driving.

"Following further information, we are satisfied that there are no further suspicious circumstances.

"We're grateful to the people who have got in touch with footage and information so far."

Police have launched a fresh appeal asking anyone who was travelling on the A1 between 21:15 and 21:30 BST on Saturday and recalls seeing a man, woman and a dog walking in the area to contact the force.

The force has also asked anyone with dashcam footage of the pedestrians or incident to also get in touch.
