Man in critical condition after three-car crash

A man is in critical condition after a three-car crash near a North Yorkshire village, police said.

The A19 collision, which took place at about 10:15 BST at the Balne crossroads, involved a black Audi A3, a grey Range Rover and a white Hyundai Santa Fe SUV.

The driver of the Audi, a 39-year-old man from Selby, was taken to hospital and is in a critical condition, North Yorkshire Police said.

An Audi passenger and the drivers of the other cars were also taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening, the force added.

Road closures were put in place to allow for crash investigators to work, with those who saw the vehicles prior to the collision asked to contact police.
