Plans approved for new medical centre in village

Plans have been given the go-ahead for a new medical centre in Enderby.

Blaby District Council's planning committee approved on Thursday a planning application from One Medical Property to build a new centre on the former playing fields of Danemill Primary School.

According to the council, the new centre, on Townsend Road - which will replace the existing centre on Shortridge Lane - would feature 13 consulting rooms, a dedicated car park and an on-site pharmacy.

One Medical Property said: "This development is essential to ensure that Enderby has the healthcare capacity to match its residential growth."

The building will have two storeys and space for 36 cars, as well as cycle storage spaces.

Lee Breckon, chairman of Blaby District Council's planning committee, said support for the new centre was "unanimous", describing it as "much-needed".

"The new centre will greatly enhance the capacity and services available at the existing practice."

He added that the scheme "would meet future community needs, while respecting the surrounding character of the area".
