Needles linked to drug use found in car park

Needles linked to drug use have been found in a car park in County Londonderry.

The syringes were discovered in a car park in the Main Street area of Limavady on Tuesday afternoon.

Police confirmed the items had been removed for disposal and warned that discarded needles or syringes posed a particular danger to children.

It comes after similar drugs paraphernalia was found last week near a children's play area in nearby Ballykelly.

Jordan Wallace, who is from Limavady, said the people who had discarded the needles were putting members of the public at risk.

"This issue appears to be getting out of hand, and this behaviour is most definitely not welcome within our community," he said.

"It is disgusting and completely unacceptable."

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said they wanted to remind people who use needles of the risks of discarding the items "so wantonly".

"Such items can be dangerous, especially to younger children who may not be aware of what they have found," a spokesperson said.

"Police will continue to use high visibility, targeted patrols and every method at our disposal to disrupt and arrest drug dealers involved in the sale and supply of drugs, and put them before the courts."

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council said staff attended the location promptly and cleared the area, leaving it safe for public use.
