Two lawnmowers abandoned in fly-tip pilot zone

Two lawnmowers have been found abandoned in a part of town where a pilot project is taking place to tackle the ongoing issue of fly-tipping.

The rubbish, which also included furniture, was left in the Blackthorn area of Northampton.

West Northamptonshire Council is raising awareness of the problem to "take a stand against fly-tipping and show pride in their neighbourhood".

It said it showed "the real impact fly‑tipping can have - damaging streets and polluting shared spaces".

The council is currently using fake crime scene tape, placing it round dumped items.

In recent weeks it highlighted the issue when a mattress, an office chair, and items of bedding were dumped in the same area.

The project is being carried out in partnership with waste contractor Veolia, where extra patrols and targeted enforcement are taking place.
