A married couple who were both born in 1966 are trying to complete 60 new experiences in the year of their 60th birthdays.

Tony and Tracy Raine, from March in Cambridgeshire, become sexagenarians in May and August respectively.

The pair feel lucky to be reaching the landmark, given that former firefighter Tony has survived some near-death experiences, while Tracy's mum and aunt both died before turning 60.

The duo, who both admit they are a "bit off the wall", are slightly ahead of schedule having ticked off 27 things so far.

"You never know what is round the corner in life - I suffered a bad car crash and also was involved in an explosion," said Tony, who served for more than 30 years at Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Tony explained the couple were not rich, but fortunately some of the challenges cost very little or nothing.

"We recorded a song together as a duet in a professional sound booth that is installed in our local library, and that was another thing ticked off, for free."

Tracy is looking forward to arguably the highlight of her list, when she plans to swim in the sea in the Maldives on her birthday in August.

"I feel very lucky to have got to this age and you have to live life and enjoy life," she said.

"The world is just too serious these days, don't be shy or embarrassed, just try something new if you can, it's all good fun."
