Pupils at home after storm caused building damage

School pupils have been told to study from home, as roofing work on a building was continuing after last week's storm.

George Eliot Academy in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, said its Linford Block was unavailable for use and only Year 11 pupils should come in on Monday and Tuesday this week.

In a letter to parents, head teacher Homeira Zakary said following the storm on Wednesday night and the ongoing roofing work on Linford Block, the building was currently unavailable and the school needed to put alternative arrangements in place.

Storms struck the region last week in the wake of the recent hot weather.

Pupils in Years 7 to 10 would need to study from home, Zakary added.

They would follow their full timetable and their exams and preparation would continue "as normal and will not be affected".

Zakary said work would be set and attendance taken online, and all pupils in those years were required to participate.

The principal of the academy on Raveloe Drive said: "Thank you, as always, for your understanding and ongoing support, we really do value it."

The school caters for about 850 pupils.
