A trial date has been set for a woman charged with murder after a man was found dead in the back of a van in a car park.

Harinder Kaur, 39, of Sutton Dene in Hounslow, west London, was charged after the body of a man - now named for the first time as Major Singh, who was in his 30s - was discovered in a Ford Transit in Garden Street, Leicester, at about 17:30 BST on 27 May.

Kaur, who is also charged with perverting the course of justice, appeared at the Old Bailey by video-link from Peterborough jail after the case was transferred from Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday.

Judge Richard Marks KC set a plea hearing for 18 September and a three-week provisional trial date from April 5 next year.

Singh was discovered after a member of the public reported concerns about the condition of the van on 27 May.

An investigation was launched by East Midlands Special Operations Unit with help from Leicestershire Police, but was later transferred to the Metropolitan Police.

Police said the van was registered to an address in west London.

The defendant spoke only to confirm her identity before Judge Marks set the next hearing dates in the case. Kaur was further remanded into custody.
