Peaky Blinders creator backs new show experience

Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight said a new immersive experience based on the show is so convincing it's even won him over.

The attraction, Peaky Blinders Underworld, opened near London Bridge station last week with Knight's backing.

Visitors can explore iconic settings including The Garrison Tavern, Garrison Lane, The Bookies, Chinatown and The Small Heath Fairground.

Knight, who said he was "not an immersive sort of person at all" said he knew the experience had been "done properly" the moment he walked in.

He told the BBC: "It's the best of what you could possibly expect - even me, someone who would not normally do this sort of thing, I think I would be going through the curtain, because it's amazing what they've done."

Many of the actors involved describe themselves as super fans of the show, which ran for six series between 2013 and 2022.

They perform as members of the Shelby organisation, complete with detailed backstories developed with the director.

Daisy Rae Peers who plays Midge Hancock, said: "People love the good gangster. We're encouraged to build these thorough backstories - we know the Shelby family, we're part of the gang.

"Being able to create that together was just beyond words."

Knight's success with Peaky Blinders has also led to him writing the next James Bond film. He said working on the franchise felt "like serving your king and country".

Peaky Blinders Underworld is currently booking until 3 January 2027.
