Van driver dies after being hit by car on main road

A van driver died after being struck by a car on the A38 in Derbyshire, police have said.

A Citroen Berlingo van was travelling on the northbound carriageway near Alfreton just before 19:50 BST on Sunday when it was involved in a crash near the junction with the B600.

The driver of the van then got out of his vehicle and was hit by a car, a Derbyshire Police spokesperson said.

The man suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force said his family had been notified. The spokesperson added: "Our thoughts are with them at this time."
