Children's home rating raised to outstanding by Ofsted

A children's home owned by Surrey County Council has been rated as outstanding by Ofsted after a previous rating of good.

The authority operates 13 Ofsted-registered residential homes, with more in development as part of an £18m investment programme aiming to give young people stable environments to flourish in, it said.

Inspectors noted that children at home in Guildford received "exceptional care that is tailored for their individual needs".

Helyn Clack, cabinet member for children, families and lifelong learning, said: "This outstanding judgement is a fantastic achievement and reflects the unwavering commitment of everyone working within the home."

The report also noted that children were regularly consulted and that their views were respected by staff, adding that the children felt "trusted and respected".

"The registered manager leads a culture at the home that allows children and staff to flourish," inspectors said after highlighting leadership as a key strength.

Clack added that the children had positive things to say to Ofsted representatives, stating that they "enjoy living at the home, feel listened to" and were "well cared for".

"That is a powerful reflection of the dedication and compassion shown by the staff team every day," Clack said.
