Police were called to Victoria Road, in Ellistown, after the crash

A man has died in a crash involving a motorcyclist and horsebox van in a village in Leicestershire.

Emergency services were called to Victoria Road, in Ellistown, following a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and grey Fiat Ducato horsebox van just before 18:00 BST on Wednesday.

Leicestershire Police said the motorcyclist, in his 50s, died at the scene. Three people who were in the van were not injured.

No arrests have been made and inquiries into the crash are continuing, the force added.

The road, between Ellistown Terrace Road and the roundabout on the B585 West Lane, was shut and has since reopened.

Det Con Emma Neeves, from the force's serious collision investigation unit, appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

"We're working to establish the circumstances of what happened and I'd like to speak to anyone who can help," she said.

"I'm appealing for any motorists who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand to come forward. I would also ask anyone with a dashcam to get in touch."
