Fourteen kittens abandoned in a bag
North Warwickshire Borough CouncilFourteen kittens have been found dumped in a bag on a street.
The abandoned cats, ten of which were aged about four to five weeks, with the other four still having their umbilical cords attached - were found alive on Royal Meadow Drive in Atherstone, Warwickshire, on Saturday.
Two North Warwickshire Borough Council street cleaners made the discovery while carrying out their duties at a recreational area at about 06:30 BST.
The kittens were taken to a vet for assessment and treatment, the authority said.
A spokesperson added: "North Warwickshire Borough Council would like to commend [street cleaners] David and Carl for their quick action, professionalism and compassion, and extend thanks to Carl's family for their immediate support in assisting with the animals prior to veterinary treatment."
Staff at the vets confirmed that the kittens would require intensive care, including placement in incubators and feeding every three hours.
