Watch: Duck released after recovering from injury

The "lucky duck" was released back into the wild in Hampshire after undergoing treatment

A duck whose beak was left hanging at a right angle after an injury has made a full recovery and been released back into the wild.

The bird was found in Fordingbridge in June and treated by Wildlife Rescue - Moyles Court, near Ringwood, after being caught by a member of the public.

The charity said the duck's treatment involved several surgeries and continued nursing care.

Sharing footage of the duck's release, the charity said it was "more than pleased" to confirm the bird had made a full recovery, crediting the "skill and dedication" of its team.

The charity's original post about the duck's injury attracted more than a million views in June.

Without treatment, the injury could have left the duck unable to feed itself or waterproof its feathers.

At the time, head of nursing Carla England said the duck had been fortunate to retain blood supply to the damaged section of its beak, which allowed surgeons to pin it back into place.

"It's not a common injury but we have seen it before," she said in June. "You can't always save a beak that's so badly damaged. It depends entirely on the blood supply."
