Glenn Gordon and family are the wealthiest family in Jersey according to the latest Sunday Times Rich List

The boss of a whisky producer and his family remained the richest people in the Channel Islands despite their wealth falling by nearly £1.7bn.

The latest Sunday Times Rich List showed Glenn Gordon - chairman of William Grant & Sons, the company behind Glenfiddich, Grant's and Drambuie - made an estimated £4.745bn with his family.

This represented a fall from the previous year, when they topped the local list with £6.398bn, after the company's profits dropped by 30%.

In Guernsey, Triumph Motorcycles owner John Bloor topped the island's rich list with a fortune of £3.1bn.

This year's list, made up of 350 individuals and families, holds a combined wealth of £783.5bn with more than £15bn coming from the Channel Islands.

Robert Watts, the list's compiler, said: "Obviously the islands have attractions above the tax system - lovely beaches and a lovely place of life.

"But, for Jersey, no capital gains tax, no inheritance tax, lower income tax - the passenger traffic for wealthy people in the UK is clear.

"They have already seen significant changes to the tax they pay in the UK."
