Man charged after woman suffers serious injuries

Police were called to Fernside Avenue in Huddersfield shortly after midnight on Friday morning

A 34-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a woman, causing her head injuries police have described as "very serious".

Gareth Brook is accused of Section 18 wounding with intent following an incident on Fernside Avenue in Huddersfield shortly after midnight on Friday morning.

West Yorkshire Police said Mr Brook, who lives at an address on the same street, would appear before Leeds Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

The victim, who is in her thirties, remained in hospital, officers added.
