Full weekend closure while old A47 'ripped up'
Shaun Whitmore/BBCNational Highways said a full weekend closure would be taking place to "rip up" part of the old A47 to make way for a 5.5-mile (8.9km) dual carriageway.
The road will be closed in both directions between Norwich and Dereham to build a new Lyng Road junction and start removing the Easton roundabout, from 20:00 BST on Friday to 06:00 on Monday.
The closure forms part of the ongoing project to dual the A47 between North Tuddenham and Easton.
Chris Griffin, National Highways programme leader, said: "Apologies to the travelling public, but this is about getting the road open next summer."
National Highways said the closure would be in place between the Longwater Interchange and the Dereham Interchange, with diversions in place using the A11, A134 and A1065.
Drivers have also been advised that an abnormal load, travelling from King's Lynn to Necton, would use part of the diversion route at Swaffham on Sunday.
Sam Burton/BBCGriffin told the BBC he was confident the road would open on time on Monday.
"We are literally ripping up the old A47 to basically do two new crossovers, so where you are driving on the A47 currently you will then divert left or right on to the new local road," he said.
"We recognise the disruption this causes, but we don't take these things lightly."
There will be about 100 people working during the weekend, who will also be filling existing potholes.
Once reopened, traffic will be able to use the new Lyng Road and local access road.
