Two attempted murder arrests after man hit by car

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was was struck by a car which had mounted the pavement and left seriously injured.

The 28-year-old was walking on Condor Grove in Blackpool shortly before 03:00 BST when he was hit by a VW Passat, Lancashire Police said.

He suffered "significant injuries" and was taken to hospital where his condition was described as serious, the force added.

The car drove off but was stopped by police officers on nearby Waterloo Road and a 23-year-old man from Coventry and a 22-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent were arrested.

Det Insp James Wilde appealed for witnesses or anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.

He said: "This shocking incident has left a man with some very serious injuries and the information we have so far would suggest that this was an intentional act.

"I have a dedicated team of officers who will be carrying out enquiries in the area so please feel free to approach them if you have any information or concerns."
