Suspected unexploded ordnance found near beach
PA MediaA bomb disposal team is investigating reports of unexploded ordnance at a beach.
Durham Police officers were called to the beach at Blackhall Colliery and Crimdon, near Hartlepool, at about 19:00 BST and have asked people to stay away from the site.
A cordon is in place on wasteland close to the beach and is expected to be in place for several hours, the force says.
Last month, about 150 phosphorous-based grenades used in World War Two were found on Crimdon Dene Beach but it is unknown if this item is of the same type.
The North East Ambulance Service confirmed it had been called to the scene but no-one had been injured.
"We dispatched one vehicle from our Hazardous Area Response Team and one patient was checked over and discharged at the scene," a spokesperson said.
