Shocked walker finds SUV blocking route on Wales Coast Path

Stunned walker Canberk Beker could not believe his eyes when he came across a car blocking his way on the Wales Coast Path.

The 31-year-old was out for a stroll with wife Bethan Jones, also 31, when they saw the blue Kia Sportage on Saturday morning between Mumbles and Langland Bay.

The driver had managed to wedge the SUV between a concrete fence post on one side and a bench on the other.

Canberk, from Langland, in Swansea, said: "It was completely covering the path. I was looking inside the car."

South Wales Police said it did not attend the scene, while a local councillor believes the driver mistakenly drove down a walking path believing to be a road before getting stuck.

There was no-one in it.

"The car seat was laying down where they had tried to go through the boot to get out," Canberk said.

"We kept walking and after about 10 feet we saw that another bench was broken."

They were lucky not to have driven over the cliff edge, he said, adding: "They would have died.

"It's such a high cliff."

Mumbles councillor Will Thomas said it happened on Friday night and had happened twice before.

He had sent an email to council officers on Saturday, he said, about putting a gate or bollard at the end of the path.

"I think someone has mixed up their sat nav and put a walking route into it. It must be because I don't think the people who are doing this are kids," he added.

The car, he said, had since been removed.

"It was about half a mile down the path," he said, adding: "The last time it was about 300 or 400 metres."
