Proposals for new homes likely to be approved

Proposals to build 65 homes on land between Menston and Otley have been recommended for approval.

Avant Homes submitted an outline planning application, initially for 75 homes on land off Otley Road, to Bradford Council in 2025.

Concerns have been raised about the plans due to the loss of green belt land, damage to the rural landscape, and the impact on services in the area.

In a report, planning officers state the development would not undermine the green belt and would help address the need for housing in the Bradford district and recommend approval subject to certain conditions.

Officers said the land should be classed as grey belt, an area that makes little contribution to the green belt and can be used for housing schemes.

They also said Bradford Council cannot currently demonstrate a five-year supply of housing land and has not met the threshold for the delivery of home required by the government's Housing Delivery Test.

The applicant said 50% of the homes built would be affordable housing.

A decision on whether to grant planning consent will be made on Thursday.
