Two sheep that became stuck in the River Derwent have been rescued by firefighters.

Crews from across Derbyshire were called to the river to rescue the stricken animals in two separate incidents on Sunday.

Fire crews were first called to the river shortly before 12:00 BST after a sheep was spotted out of its depth in the River Derwent.

They saved the animal using ropes with the help of specialist vehicles and a water rescue team.

Later the same day, shortly before 17:00 BST, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service was again called to the river after a sheep had become trapped below a 6ft (1.8m) ledge next to the river.

Firefighters used an all-terrain vehicle to help rescue the animal before returning it to its owner.
