Van with fake plates used for fly-tipping seized

A white van with fake registration plates that was used for fly-tipping offences has been seized, a council has said.

The Ford Transit was linked to illegal waste dumping in the Little Horton and Great Horton areas of Bradford and was confiscated on 31 July.

Bradford Council said flytipping was an environmental crime that "blights neighbourhoods" and placed an "unfair burden on taxpayers".

"A full investigation is now under way to gather further evidence and identify all those responsible," a spokesperson added.

The local authority also said the seizure was part of its ongoing commitment to tackling environmental crime and protecting communities from the impact of illegal waste disposal.

Bradford Council's environmental enforcement team works in partnership with West Yorkshire Police.

Councillor Ian Walker, Bradford Council's portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and communities, said: "We will continue to take robust action against those responsible, including seizing vehicles used in these offences where the law allows.

"The fact that this vehicle was displaying false registration plates demonstrates the lengths some offenders will go to in an attempt to avoid detection."

He added: "However, our message is clear - if you choose to dump waste illegally, you should expect to face the consequences."
