A body recovered from the water off the Orkney island of Stronsay has been confirmed as a missing monk.

Justin Evans, 24, who was also known as Brother Ignatius, went missing from neighbouring Papa Stronsay last month.

Police Scotland said a body found last week had been formally identified as Evans and his relatives had been informed.

The force said there were no suspicious circumstances and a report had been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Evans was last seen at the Golgotha Monastery just before midnight on Saturday 11 April.

The monk, originally from New Zealand, was a member of the Redemptorist Community.

The order of Catholic monks bought Papa Stronsay more than 25 years ago.
