Revamp plans for shipping container food venue
LDRSPlans to improve a York street food venue housed in shipping containers have been lodged.
An application from SPARK:York to replace its existing stairs, relocate its lift and refurbish its entrance has been submitted to City of York Council.
Plans had been scaled back following consultation with council officers, with the proposed changes intended to make the venue safer and easier for everyone to use.
SPARK opened in 2018 and was given permission to remain for a further five years in 2025, although residents of neighbouring Nelson's Yard have previously complained about noise.
Changes to the plans originally submitted in June include removing a proposed entrance canopy in response to concerns about the impact on nearby listed buildings and the surrounding historic conservation area.
The latest plans state a sound management system and limiter had been installed in accordance with the conditions of its current planning permission, the Local Democracy Reporting Service reports.
Proposals include replacing its two existing scaffold staircases with steel structures, moving the venue's lift to the back of the site and creating more space for unexposed outdoor seating.
The application states that first-floor decking extensions would be limited, with no exposed tables positioned close to neighbouring homes.
The entrance forecourt could also be resurfaced, while fixed furniture would be removed from the foyer to create more space. Cosmetic repairs are also planned.
No date has been set for the council to consider the proposals.
