Seven arrested after violent disorder in car park

Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of affray after violent disorder broke out in Reading.

The incident happened at about 18:35 GMT on Sunday between seven people at the car park under Basing House on Portman Road.

Four women aged between 60 and 32 and three men aged between 64 and 23, all from Reading, were arrested on suspicion of affray and remain in custody.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Stuart Streeter said Thames Valley Police was "continuing to investigate this as a priority".

A man in his 20s was stabbed in the arm and a woman, also in her 20s, sustained an injury to her thumb. Both required hospital treatment and have been discharged.

Four others sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

Det Insp Streeter said: “I understand that this may cause concern but I would like to reassure the community that this was an isolated and targeted incident with no threat to the wider public.

“We are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with information, dash-cam or doorbell footage to please come forward."
