Fire service tackling recycling centre blaze
Brian HigginsonA blaze at a waste recycling centre outside Carryduff is being tackled by firefighters.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service was called to the incident on the Hillsborough Road, which produced large plumes of black smoke that could be seen from miles around.
In a statement, the fire service advised people living nearby to keep windows and doors closed and asked members of the public to avoid the area.
"We would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we deal with this incident," a spokesperson said.
Up to eight fire engines were at the scene according to Democratic Unionist Party councillor Brian Higginson.
He urged people to take care if they were near the site of the fire in County Down.
Alliance Party MLA for the area Kate Nicholl said she was worried by news of the fire and that her thoughts were with the firefighters dealing with it.
